NURTURING FOOTBALLING TALENT

The York City FC Academy has been an integral part of the club’s development culture since the 1960s. Combining high quality coaching, the latest technology and clear pathways to the professional game, the Academy is here to foster footballing talent across York and North Yorkshire. Working with local schools, York College, York St John’s University and the York City FC Foundation, we identify and nurture talent to give young people the opportunity to progress in the game.

 Our success stories over the years include Jonathan Greening (who was part of the Manchester United squad that won the treble in 1998/99), Marco Gabbiadini, and Richard Cresswell. Ben Godfrey (Everton & England) also played for City in the early part of his career after being a product of the York youth system.

National League Academy Cup Winners 2023
Youth Team
The under-19s Youth Team is made up of our 16-19 year old players who have shown a high degree of talent in their earlier years and have progressed through our Youth system. In the 2022/23 season the squad lifted the National League Academy Cup, beating Woking at St George's Park, the home of England. Four Youth Team players were offered professional contracts with the football club at the end of the season.
Squad & Fixtures
Academy Ages 9-16
The York City Academy identify and develop football talent in the local region. Membership of the Academy is by invitation only, with talent being identified through our extensive partnerships with scouts and schools across Yorkshire. The ages 9 - U16 benefit from athletic development sessions delivered by York St John University, participation in the Junior Premier League and regular training sessions.

Talent Hub
The York City Talent Hub is a unique collaboration with Thirsk School & Sixth Form which will forge a pathway for talented boys and girls in North Yorkshire going into Year 7. The scheme integrates football and athletic development, delivered by Academy coaches, into the core education curriculum at Thirsk School. York City FC and York College Level 3 Diploma in Sports Coaching and Development
College Programme
Working in partnership with York College's Sports Development Centre, this programme enables talented student-athletes aged 16 to 19 to combine their passion for sport with full-time education. Football coaching is delivered by experienced Academy coaches, enabling students to follow the framework of a professional club whilst working towards academic qualifications.
