York City are delighted to announce the capture of defender Zech Medley following the expiry of his contract at Fleetwood Town.
The 25-year-old arrives at the LNER Community Stadium with experience across England, Scotland, and Belgium.
His footballing journey began in the Chelsea academy at eight years old, before making the switch to Arsenal in 2016.
Medley quickly progressed through the ranks, captaining the Gunners’ U18 side before earning opportunities with the senior squad, including a first-team debut in the UEFA Europa League.
The centre-back gained further experience with loan spells at League One Gillingham, and then Scottish Premiership outfit Kilmarnock, where he scored his first professional goal.
In summer 2021, the towering defender moved abroad to KV Oostende, becoming a regular starter over three seasons in Belgium.
Returning to England, he joined Fleetwood, and despite suffering a long-term injury, Medley worked his way back to full fitness and returned to first-team football towards the end of the 2024/25 season.
He played 21 times in the league for the Cods last season, netting a late winner against his former club Gillingham, before spending the second half of the campaign on loan with eventual League Two champions Bromley.
Medley becomes the fourth new addition to Stuart Maynard’s squad ahead of the new season.
Welcome to York, Zech!
Subject to EFL and FA approval.
