JON PARKIN scored a hat-trick as York City returned to winning ways against North Ferriby United.

The veteran striker has bagged five goals in two games since signing a new deal with the Minstermen last week and is now on 21 goals for the season.

Parkin has also scored 36 goals in the calendar year – which is just one goal short of an all-time club record (37) set by James Cowie in 1929.

On-loan defender Jonny Burn was also on the scoresheet at Grange Lane this afternoon as City moved up to ninth in Vanarama National League North.

City manager Martin Gray made one change to his side following Saturday’s defeat to Blyth Spartans with Josh Law replacing Daniel Rowe at rightback.

Ferriby might have gone ahead in the opening minutes but striker Carl Stewart wasted a golden opportunity after escaping the attentions of on-loan defender Burn.

Parkin settled City nerves in the 19th minute when blasting the ball home from eight yards after a low cross from David Ferguson.

He nearly doubled the lead soon after when meeting a low cross from Pattison but his shot on the turn fizzed narrowly wide.

City were nearly pegged back after 29 minutes when a mis-kick from Hamza Bencherif allowed Stewart to burst through on goal.

Fortunately for City, goalkeeper Adam Bartlett managed to save the shot with an outstretched leg.

City made it 2-0 five minutes before the interval as Parkin scored his 20th goal of the season with a cool finish following a cross from Josh Law.

Defender Burn then made it 3-0 in first half stoppage time – getting a toe onto Pattison’s in-swinging freekick to divert the ball into the net from close-range.

Stewart pulled a goal back for North Ferriby at the start of the second half after seizing on hesitancy in the City defence.

City retained their composure and continued to dominate the game.

Burn came close in the 80th minute, at a corner, when his close-range shot was blocked by goalkeeper Ross Durrant.

But, fittingly, it was Parkin who had the final word in the 87th minute, scoring a volley from the edge of the box after substitute James Gray flicked on a clearance from Bartlett.
