York were held to a 0-0 draw at the Tameside Stadium against Curzon Ashton.

Neither side could capitalise on chances created as the Minstermen went a third game in a row without a win.

The home side recently appointed former Farsley Celtic boss Adam Lakeland as their new manager and he got off to a brilliant start last weekend in his first game in charge as his new side recorded a 2-1 win over league leaders AFC Fylde.

They had started the season strongly sitting in the playoffs, having only recorded only two defeats in the league all season in the National League North.

Steve Watson was hoping his side could bounce back after suffering back-to-back defeats at the hands of Buxton FC and Leamington, who had John Askey assisting him in the dugout once again at the Tameside Stadium after moving to the club on a temporary consultancy basis.

New loan signing Adam Senior was one of three changes to the starting eleven ahead of kick off, which also saw Kurt Willoughby and Clayton Donaldson also return having dropped to the bench for Tuesday’s defeat to Leamington.

The hosts went close to opening the scoring after only four minutes when Dale Whitham had a header cleared off the line by Akil Wright at the far post.

City had chances themselves and struck the frame of Chris Renshaw’s post twice within a minute. Donaldson had an effort tipped onto the crossbar by the Curzon keeper, before new loan singing Senior struck also struck the bar from the edge of the area with a fierce left-footed strike.

Alex Curran tested Jameson into an easy save on the half-hour mark from the edge of the area, before Willoughby tested the Curzon keeper from range as both sides looked to break the deadlock.

Paddy McLaughlin was denied by a double save by Renshaw on the stroke of half-time, before Donaldson had a header cleared off the line by a Curzon defender a minute later.

City went close inside of a minute into the second half when Mark Beck headed inches wide of Renshaw’s left-hand post, before Senior fired over from close-range after getting onto the end of a Mitch Hancox cross.

McLaughlin was denied by a last-ditch tackle on the hour mark after breaking into the penalty area as York still looked to break the deadlock at the Tameside Stadium.

The home side thought they had broken the deadlock with twenty minutes to go, but the referee disallowed the goal as the linesman held up his flag for offside.

Willoughby went close to breaking the deadlock when he curled wide of Renshaw’s right-hand post, before Lussey was denied by a last-ditch block in the penalty area as he looked to give the home side the lead.

Neither side could break the deadlock at the Tameside Stadium, as both sides shared the spoils.

The Minstermen will look to get back to winning ways next Saturday when they take on Kettering Town in the National League North at the LNER Community Stadium (3pm kick off).
