The Minstermen are still searching for their first win of the season, after falling to a 4-0 defeat away at Gloucester City.

Gloucester took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Danny King, before second half goals from Fabien Robert, Kevin Dawson and Matt McClure secured victory for the home side at New Meadow Park.

Steve Watson was forced into two changes from last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at home to Kidderminster Harriers. Michael Woods came into the starting eleven, as well as new loanee Jaden Charles, following his arrival from Mansfield Town.

Managed by former City player Paul Groves, Gloucester went into the fixture also looking for their first league win of the season, following on from last weekend’s 2-2 draw away at Southport.

City started the game on the front foot, as Akil Wright headed over from a corner after six minutes whilst stretching out for the ball.

The home side were presented with a brilliant opportunity to take the lead just after 12 minutes. Dawson found a gap to break into the box, before he sent a toe-poked effort inches wide of Peter Jameson's post.

Gloucester went close again five minutes later when King got the better of Fielding on the left flank, he sent in a low cross, but the ball rolled just behind the forward run of McClure.

Jameson tipped away a low shot from McClure out for a corner just after the half hour mark, before Dawson fired over the bar from the edge of the area after a short corner.

King gave the home side the lead on the stroke of half time when he finished low across goal, after breaking on the counter with Jameson unable to tip the ball away from danger.

City started off the second half as they looked to find a way back into the game. Olly Dyson had an opportunity, after finding himself with time and space on the edge of the area, but he sent a 25 yard effort high and wide of Jake Cole’s goal.

The home side doubled their lead after 56 minutes through Robert, as his shot from the edge of the area took a big deflection, wrong-footing Jameson as the ball bounced into the bottom corner.

City were unable to claim a goal back in the 70th minute when a great ball in from the left was punched away by Cole. Michael Wood’s met the punch with a header, which came off the crossbar, before the ball was gathered up by Cole.

The home side made it three through Dawson after 76 minutes, who fired past Jameson with a thunderous effort from the edge of the area into the top left corner.

Things got worse for the Minstermen as McClure made it 4-0 with two minutes of play to go. The Gloucester striker found himself in a tight angle on the left, before he superbly lobbed Jameson, before wheeling away in celebration.

The game finished 4-0 in favour of the home side, leaving City winless after their first two league games. They will look to put things right next Saturday, with Brackley visiting the LNER Community Stadium.
