City started the new year with a 2-1 victory against Bradford Park Avenue at Bootham Crescent.

Macaulay Langstaff scored in the first half, before Jordan Burrow doubled City's lead with ten minutes remaining. Liam Hughes got one back late on for Bradford.

York were looking to start the new decade with a win, after losing 2-1 at Bootham Crescent last time out against Guiseley. Bradford were heavily beaten in their last game, losing 5-0 to Farsley Celtic.

Steve Watson made one change to the side that lost to Guiseley, reverting to the team that beat Bradford 2-0 on boxing day. Bradford manager Mark Bower made four changes to his side after their defeat to Farsley.

It took nine minutes before either side had half a chance. Patrick McLaughlin’s right footed strike went straight into the keeper's hands.

York went ahead after 13 minutes. A brilliant run from Adriano Moke saw him take the ball into the box before pulling it back to Langstaff who composed himself inside the area and slotted the ball into the net.

Bradford had a big chance to level the game through Adam Nowakowski, but he headed over the bar, despite being unmarked in the area.

After another good passing move from York, McLaughlin found himself in space on the edge of the box and had a shooting opportunity. His left footed shot flew over the bar.

Nicky Clee was played in on the left-hand side of the area. His shot was easily gathered by Jameson.

David Ferguson was able to get a cross in from the left-hand side. Joe Green in the Bradford goal was able to gather it before a red shirt got there.

Just before half time York had a chance to go in with a two-goal lead. Kallum Griffiths crossed from the right-hand side, onto the head of Burrow, who’s header didn’t hit the target. McLaughlin also had another left footed effort that flew over the bar. At the break, York led 1-0.

Langstaff had the first effort of the second half. His curling effort went straight into the hands of Green in the Bradford goal.

Burrow was able to get his head to the ball after a shot from Langstaff deflected into his path, however he headed over.

A brilliant free kick from Griffiths on the left-hand side found Alex Kempster at the back post. He couldn’t keep his header down and it went for a goal kick.

Kieran Green drove forward with the ball and tried his luck from outside the area. His effort went just wide of the post.

Green then tried to catch the keeper out from long range, but he dragged his shot wide.

Jameson did well to prevent Bradford from equalising. He denied Ryan Hall twice from close range to keep York ahead.

With ten minutes to go, York got their second goal. Burrow was played in on the left-hand side of the box. His shot was straight at Green however the Bradford keeper couldn’t hold it, and it went into the back of the net.

Burrow had a chance late on the get his second but his shot went wide.

Bradford managed to get themselves a goal with the last kick of the game. Substitute Hughes’ shot took a deflection, wrong footed Jameson and went in.

That was the last kick of the game, as York ran out 2-1 winners.
