City suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season after losing 3-0 tonight at Spennymoor Town.

The Minstermen had been hoping to bounce back from a weekend loss at AFC Telford United but instead returned empty-handed from the Brewery Field.

Striker Macaulay Langstaff and defender Hamza Bencherif both had 'goals' disallowed and substitute Josh Law struck the crossbar with a second half freekick.

Spennymoor, who are fourth in Vanarama National League North, maintained their impressive form thanks to goals from Glen Taylor (2) and Stephen Brogan.

City manager Sam Collins made three changes for the game - with Kallum Griffiths, Adriano Moke, and Wes York replacing Nathan Dyer, Josh Law, and David Ferguson - and employed a 4-3-3 formation.

Midfielder Simon Heslop, who had served a one game ban at the weekend, was missing again due to a knee injury.

City made a promising start and York was denied by a good low save from Town goalkeeper Matthew Gould. Midfielder Alex Harris then fizzed a 25 yard drive inches too high and York chipped onto the roof of the net.

Town, however, took the lead after 18 minutes when fullback Brogan beat York to the ball before shooting past Adam Bartlett with an angled drive.

Striker Langstaff had a 'goal' ruled out by an offside flag before Taylor doubled Town's advantage in the 26th minute.

Captain Joe Tait had conceded a foul midway inside the City half and Brogan's freekick found Mark Anderson who volleyed at Bartlett. The City goalkeeper was unable to hold onto the ball and Taylor headed home the rebound.

City might have pulled a goal back before the interval but Jordan Burrow headed at Gould from a Griffiths cross and then headed wide from a Sean Newton cross.

Anderson grazed City's crossbar with a shot just after the interval before also hitting the outside of the post.

With substitutes Jake Wright, Law, and Jon Parkin now in the action, City began to apply more pressure and a headed 'goal' from Bencherif was disallowed for pushing in the 69th minute.

Wright nearly pulled a goal back with a curling effort that flew inches wide and a freekick from Law struck the crossbar with 12 minutes to go.

But Taylor wrapped things up with a third goal for Town in the 88th minute, the striker firing into the roof of the net after good work by former City striker Adam Boyes.
