Summer signing Kieran Green showed his eye for goal and gave City a 2-1 victory over North Yorkshire neighbours Scarborough Athletic.

The former Blyth Spartans midfielder struck from the edge of the box with 20 minutes to play to ensure the Minstermen recorded a third consecutive home win.

Striker Alex Kempster had given City the lead after just two minutes at Bootham Crescent before James Walshaw equalised for Scarborough at the start of the second half.

Manager Steve Watson made eight changes to his starting line-up with only Steve McNulty, Adriano Moke, and Dan Maguire remaining in the side from the Hartlepool United game on Wednesday evening.

Trialists Billy Beresford and Liam Smith both started for City along with an un-named defender who stepped up from the bench after Josh King was injured in the warm-up.

Summer signing McNulty wore the captain's armband and Watson also fielded a un-named trialist in attack in the second half.

City took the lead when Kempster converted at the near post after Boro failed to deal with a cross from Smith.

Maguire nearly doubled the advantage in the 11th minute but his low drive from just inside the area struck the foot of the post .

City enjoyed the majority of the first half possession with Maguire and Kempster both going close again before halftime.

Green had a shot saved at the near post by goalkeeper Tommy Taylor while Nathan Dyer sent a drive fizzing over the crossbar.

The visitors made a brighter start to the second period and were back on level terms in the 49th minute when striker Walshaw tapped home from eight yards after good work by former City striker Michael Coulson.

Scarborough might have gone ahead just a few minutes later but goalkeeper Ryan Whitley managed to scramble a shot from Coulson onto the post.

City regained their composure before Green settled the contest with a stunning strike - the midfielder lashing home a shot from 25 yards.

Green turned provider in the 80th minute when he delivered an excellent first time pass to 'Trialist B' who flicked the ball into thje path of Charlie Jebson-King - however the teenage wingback's shot sailed over the bar.
