Late goals from Hereford's Danny Greenslade and James Waite condemned City to a 2-1 defeat in, possibly, the final game under floodlights at Bootham Crescent.

Striker Alex Kempster had scored his third goal in four games to put City on course for victory but the game was turned on its head as Hereford scored twice in the space of three minutes.

City had been looking to secure back-to-back victories for the first time in 13 months and had controlled the game for the majority of the evening.

The loss of defender Daniel Parslow and striker Kempster with injuries at the start of the second half, however, was far from insignificant.

Manager Steve Watson had made three changes to the side with Parslow, Wes York, and Alex Harris replacing Hamza Bencherif, Scott Burgess, and Kallum Griffiths.

City took the lead after just nine minutes when Burrow flicked a header into the path of Kempster who slotted the ball home from 12 yards.

Burrow might have doubled the lead in the 29th minute but his close-range header, from a Harris corner, bounced agonisingly wide.

City had enjoyed the the majority of the first half possession and looked relatively comfortable at the back.

However, Parslow was forced off at the interval after picking up a head injury and Kempster limped off four minutes later.

Josh Law dropped into the middle of the back three and Jake Wright replaced Kempster in attack with Burgess coming on in midfield.

City goalkeeper Adam Bartlett had not been tested until the 56th minute when beating away a shot from substitute Waite.

City could have scored soon after when Paddy McLaughlin's shot was blocked in the goalmouth and Burrow's follow-up was saved by Yates.

With 15 minutes to go, substitute Wright had a shot deflected wide following a determined run by Wes York.

But the game swung in Hereford's favour after 77 minutes when substitute David Ferguson fouled Elliot Richards on the edge of the box.

The subsequent freekick from Greenslade slipped under the body of goalkeeper Bartlett on its way into the net.

Waite scored the winner in the 80th minute - turning the ball home from 15 yards after Tom Owen-Evans seized on a weak clearance by Bartlett.

It was a disappointing end to, possibly, the final game under floodlights at Bootham Crescent.

City will only play at home under floodlights again in the event of a postponement, a play-off tie, or a home fixture in the semifinal of the North Riding Senior Cup.
