York City 0 FC United of Manchester 2

SIMON Heslop was sent off as York City’s five game unbeaten run was halted by FC United of Manchester.

Heslop’s dismissal gave United the numerical advantage and they duly scored twice in the remaining 28 minutes.

Substitute Tom Greaves opened the scoring in the 79th minute after Jason Gilchrist’s initial shot was blocked by the legs of goalkeeper Jon Worsnop.

Striker Gilchrist completed the victory with a stoppage time strike that took a heavy deflection on its way past Worsnop.

City hit the woodwork twice in the second half and missed a number of other promising goalscoring opportunities.

Sean Newton struck the post after 47 minutes and Kaine Felix’s follow-up effort was hacked off the line by United defender Jordan Fagbola.

Substitute Michael Rankine stabbed the ball against the post in a goalmouth scramble after 68 minutes.

Both sides had opportunities to break the deadlock before the interval.

Parkin was denied when his close range shot was blocked by United goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson and the big striker was unlucky again when he narrowly failed to bundle the ball over the line at the far post following a good cross from Newton.

United could have scored on 30 minutes but City defender Hamza Bencherif was on hand to clear the ball off the line when Gilchrist’s shot beat goalkeeper Worsnop.

City manager Gary Mills made three changes to his side with Parkin, Aidan Connolly, and Felix replacing Rankine and injured duo Adriano Moke and Louis Almond.

Moke had suffered a thigh injury against Southport and Almond was ruled out by a rib injury.

Connolly lined-up in midfield alongside Newton and Heslop while Felix played in attack with Parkin and Amari Morgan-Smith.

Heslop, who had been booked in the first half for a trip, was shown the red card on 62 minutes after a late challenge on United’s Nathan Lowe.

The Minstermen would have equalled their longest sequence of unbeaten league games since 2015 if they had avoided defeat.

And striker Amari Morgan-Smith was gifted an opportunity to equalise with 15 minutes to go when Allinson spilled the ball attempting to kick from his hands on the edge of the penalty area.

But with Allinson desperately out of position, Morgan-Smith’s shot hit the back of United defender Matty Hughes in the goalmouth and the chance was gone.
