Josh Stones signs new five-year deal to extend his stay with City

Title-winning goalscorer Josh Stones will continue his York City journey after signing a new five-year deal with the club.

Just two months ago today, the forward struck home an incredibly dramatic goal which secured City promotion back to the Football League.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a memorable 2025/26 campaign, playing a key role in our National League success, scoring 18 goals in 40 games.

Having initially joined from Wigan Athletic on a permanent deal in January 2025, Stones netted a hat-trick in one of his first starts, before properly hitting the ground running last season under Stuart Maynard.

On signing a new contract, which keeps him at the LNER Community Stadium until 2031, Stones said: “It has been in talks now for a long time. I’m buzzing it’s finally over the line.”
