Malachi Fagan-Walcott joins Hearts for record fee

We can confirm that Malachi Fagan-Walcott has joined Scottish Premiership side Hearts for a club record selling fee.

Initially joining the Minstermen on loan from Cardiff City in September 2024, the centre-back went on to play 41 times during that season, as we finished second in the National League, but fell just short in the play-offs.

After playing a huge part in our defensive record in his first campaign, Fagan-Walcott starred in the backline throughout 2025/26 too, keeping 15 clean sheets in 36 league games. The 24-year-old also netted some notable goals for City on the road to a record-breaking title win, which will go down in history forever.

He now makes the switch to Scotland, signing for last season’s narrow Premiership runners-up Heart of Midlothian, who will play in the UEFA Champions League Qualifying stages in the coming campaign.

All of us at York City would like to thank and wish the very best of luck to Mal. The sky’s the limit; we are all rooting for you.
