Match Report | Altrincham 3-0 York City

York City lost 3-0 away to Altrincham at the J.Davidson Stadium in Vanarama National League action on Tuesday night.

Three first half goals did the damage with City unable to find a response in the end.

Adam Hinshelwood made four changes to the side which turned Yeovil Town over 4-0 three days before.

Rory Watson, Ryan Fallowfield, Ashley Nathaniel-George and Luca Thomas all started in place of Harrison Male, Adam Crookes, Tyrese Sinclair and Marvin Armstrong.

York began the half with real energy, winning a corner after just 15 seconds before having a shot inside the area blocked.

Winger Ashley Nathaniel-George proceeded to drag an unchallenged effort wide in the 10th minute after cutting in from the left.

Chances then started to fall for Altrincham. Regan Linney’s 12th minute effort, which the forward was stretching for, was guided towards the middle of goal.

Matty Kosylo sliced high and wide for Altrincham six minutes later, meeting Elliott Osborne’s cross from the left.

Linney netted the opener shortly after, curling in after Alex Newby’s clever back-heel allowed the forward to charge into the area unmarked.

Both Ricky Aguiar and David Ajiboye proceeded to sling chances over the bar as York looked to level.

A brace was bagged in the 36th minute for Linney who struck through bodies after George Wilson’s strike bounced off the foot of the post.

Matty Kosylo added a third in the 40th minute for Altrincham, chipping over Rory Watson after pouncing on a mistake.

The Minstermen began the second half much like the first, setting early tempo and winning a corner.

Hinshelwood looked to move early with substitutions too, introducing Dipo Akinyemi just eight minutes into the half.

Pearce opened up to shoot in the 54th minute, however an Alty body took the sting out the effort.

Joe Nuttall squandered a header from close range shortly after, planting over the bar from a few yards out following Kosylo’s dipping cross from the right.

Ajiboye forced former York City shot-stopper Ethan Ross into a low save after the winger drove towards the area, sending a low-driven effort at goal.

City had three corners to utilise following the save, however they couldn’t be converted as a route back in.

An audacious effort from Linney so nearly wrapped up a hat-trick in style on the 66th minute, if not for Watson’s tip over the bar.

The forward lifted the ball up from just inside Alty’s side, hanging it in the air before it dipped heading for goal.

The Minstermen continued to create half chances around Alty’s area, with Akinyemi, Pearce, and Hunt all going close at goal.

Callum Howe also went close towards the back of the game from a corner, powering a firm header towards Ross’ near right-hand post.

Altrincham went close once more when Elliott Osborne dragged wide from the middle of the pitch, just outside City’s area.
