Match Report | York City 0-2 Boston United

York City lost 2-0 against Boston United in the Vanarama National League on Bank Holiday Monday at the LNER Community Stadium.

Adam Hinshelwood made five changes to the side which took a point from Sutton United just two days prior.

Harrison Male, Tyrese Sinclair, Billy Chadwick, Ricky Aguiar and Cameron John all returned to the starting XI.

Cameron Gregory beat away a number of chances in the first half for visitors Boston United.

Ollie Pearce had his second minute close-range chance palmed away after City won a corner after two minutes.

Joe Felix was slipped through by Tyrese Sinclair three minutes later, with his right-hand flank cross floating towards the far side of goal.

Alex Hunt worked his way through from midfield until the edge of the area, evading all sorts of challenges before drawing a routine stop from the Boston shot-stopper.

Ricky Aguiar had a clear sight at goal in the 23rd minute after link-up play between Hunt and Cameron John down the left-hand flank had the left-back in an advanced position to slide across to the midfielder.

Aguiar beat his shot at goal, denied by a rooted Gregory who was on the spot.

Harrison Male was called into action in the 36th minute, preventing Jacob Hazel from converting a one-on-one chance with a strong right arm.

Frankie Maguire found the side-netting minutes into the second half, lashing a shot just wide of Male’s left-hand post.

Hazel then went again at goal, curling a left-footed strike into Male’s palms.

City had appeals for a penalty in the 55th minute when Ollie Pearce hit the deck just inside the box, however referee Stuart Morland was quick on the scene to wave away the claim.

Male made a second significant save to deny Hazel from close range, before the strike eventually scored two minutes later.

Boston United’s number nine tucked away the 69th minute chance after being picked out from a right-hand flank cross.

Hazel looked to double up three minutes later at the near post, with Male using his legs to send the chance away.

Tony Weston sent a one-on-one rolling wide in the 76th minute after beating the offside trap to be in front of Male.

Substitute Keaton Ward wrapped up the victory for The Pilgrims in the 87th minute, charging into the area before rolling through Male.
