York and Forest Green both played out an entertaining score draw at the LNER Community Stadium.

The first chance of the game fell to the visitors inside just four minutes. A cross from the right-hand side fell to Jordan Garrick from inside the box who blazed a shot over from close range.

City’s first chance of the game came to Lewis Richardson who went alone on his left-foot from outside the box but his shot went wide of the mark.

Ashley Nathaniel-George was next to have a go at goal for City. His shot from the edge of the box was blocked by a strong tackle from Ben Tozer.

A great chance fell to the Minstermen on the 20th minute when a cross played in from the left-hand side flashed across the face of goal before Forest Green were able to see the ball behind for a corner.

Richardson was back involved in the action when he fed through an inch-perfect cross towards the back post looking for Jeff King but the right-back’s header went just over the bar.

City were enjoying a lot of the ball in the first half and were awarded a free-kick in a crossing position. Alex Hunt’s ball into the box was flicked on by Ollie Pearce at the front-post but Rovers scrambled the ball clear.

It took just two minutes into the second half for the Minstermen to take the lead. A lovely through ball from Pearce played Lewis Richardson through on goal who lifted the ball over Fabian Mrozek and into the back of the net.

York were hungry for more. Pearce again providing the play, his cross reached Hunt inside the box who volleyed the ball at goal but it hit the side netting.

Forest Green looked to hit York on the counter and found their equaliser when Garrick’s cross was met by the free head of Harry Cardwell who buried his effort past Harrison Male.

Hunt was next to see the goal in a short distance but his shot from just outside the box was rolled wide of the left-hand post.

Both teams were showing clear capability of finding a winner. A chance fell Hunt’s way in the 78th minute when substitute Josh Stones teed up the City number 8 in the box but his venomous effort at goal flew over the bar.

There was to be no late drama as both teams had to settle for a point in a close fought contest.
