Match Report | York City 2-0 Tamworth

York City won 2-0 against Tamworth at the LNER Community Stadium in the Vanarama National League on Saturday afternoon.

Second half goals from Ollie Pearce and Billy Chadwick topped off a dominant performance.

Adam Hinshelwood made two changes to his side which opened up the new Vanarama National League season away to Southend.

Tyrese Sinclair and Ricky Aguiar started in place of Dipo Akinyemi and Marvin Armstrong.

City set the tempo for the first half against a Tamworth side who couldn’t quite get to grips with the right-hand flank.

A third minute cross from Sinclair, floated in towards the back post, was clawed at by the boot of the drifting in Cameron John.

Ollie Pearce had his shot blocked away from point blank range after Joe Felix slid in the forward from the right flank.

Pearce then scuffed a shot into Singh’s direction in the 18th minute after City’s persistence to find an opening in and around Tamworth’s area.

The ball did nestle the net minutes later, however Dan Batty’s diagonal just caught Sinclair offside.

The right-hand domination continued by Adam Hinshelwood’ side. Felix’s cross bounced off the crossbar in the 26th minute.

Batty and Sinclair did time their next link up to perfection, halted this time by Jasbir Singh in the Tamworth net.

Ricky Aguiar saw his free-kick just shy of half time deflect out for a corner.

Callum Howe’s connecting volley, following delivery by Alex Hunt, was sweetly struck on the volley but blocked away by the visitors.

Minutes into the second half, Pearce wrapped a short free-kick just into the side netting, before back-to-back corners pilled more pressure on Tamworth.

A penalty was won by City in the 53rd minute – smashed home by Pearce.

Billy Chadwick doubled up City’s lead moments later – lifting the ball up and over Singh after breaking the Tamworth backline.

Alex Hunt lashed over in the 68th minute after picking up on a Tamworth clearance, striking with the outside of his boot over the bar.

Howe blocked out Beck Ray-Enoru’s driving chance in the 83rd minute after the Tamworth man evaded some Minstermen challenges.

Substitute Ashley Nathaniel-George nearly curled in a third just before full time, after losing his man in the build up outside the area.
