York City won 3-0 against AFC Fylde at the LNER Community Stadium in the Vanarama National League on Saturday afternoon.

Adam Hinshelwood made just two changes to the side which beat Braintree Town 2-1 mid-week.

Tyrese Sinclair and Alex Hunt started in place of Dan Batty and Billy Chadwick.

A rapid start down the right flank saw City looking for an opener inside the first minute.

Ryan Fallowfield’s cross looked to be picking out forward Ollie Pearce, however Ashley Nathaniel-George steamed through before stumbling on the touch in front of goal.

The Coasters claimed the first corner inside the fifth minute, seeing that one cleared before curling one over through Bryce Hosannah shortly after.

Back-to-back York City corners resulted in Malachi Fagan-Walcott dropping a header just wide of the post, following a pin-point cross from the edge of the area by Ricky Aguiar.

Harrison Male’s first real call to action arrived in the 17th minute as the shot-stopper went down to his right in order to prevent a left-footed effort from Nick Haughton.

Defender Joe Felix did well to prevent a Haughton cross, which flashed across goal, from being tucked away at the back post.

An intriguing free kick routine from The Minstermen looked to carve a clear opening in the 32nd minute. Aguiar went short to Alex Hunt, who sent a looping ball towards the far post for Fallowfield who began his run from distance. The ball was slightly well hit however and dropped out for a goal kick.

The game changing moment for York came in the 42nd minute when AFC Fylde defender Harry David was shown a straight red card, following a collision on midfielder Marvin Armstrong.

It was the midfielder who broke the deadlock five minutes after the interval, latching on an Pearce cross to coolly convert.

Fylde were restricted in terms of chances in the second half. Substitute Charlie Jolley notedly guided over from yards out in the 68th minute, heading over.

Two Adam Hinshelwood substitutions combined in the 70th minute to make it 2-0.

Ricky Aguiar’s diagonal picked out Dipo Akinyemi down the left flank. The forward bust goalwards before laying off for Lenell John-Lewis to strike on his left foot.

Aguiar nearly netted City’s third after Callum Harriott slipped in the midfielder down the right flank. The strike whistled inches past the post.

Ben Winterbottom pulled out a quick double save in the 83rd minute, firstly denying Callum Harriott from range before preventing Ryan Fallowfield’s close range follow up.

A third in the 90th minute wrapped up a fine afternoon for The Minstermen. Harriott guided a left-footed curling effort into the far side of goal.

The Minstermen are next in action at the LNER Community Stadium against Eastleigh on Saturday, September 28th. Tickets are on sale via our Matchday Tickets page.
