York City started life back in League Two with an impressive 3-2 victory over Bristol Rovers.
It took 28 minutes for the first shot of note. Alex Hunt trying his luck from range which flew just wide of the right-hand post.
Ollie Pearce was next to have a go moments later, his curling shot was beaten away by Brad Young.
Straight after Bristol Rovers found the opener with their first chance of the game. Clinton Mola with the shot from a counter attack to give the visitors the lead.
Alfie McNally pulled off a great save to deny Bristol a second from another counter attack this time from Fabrizio Cavegn.
Shaq Forde found himself with room to shoot from a tight angle inside the box which the resulting shot flew into the South Stand behind the goal.
City’s first chance in the second half came from a corner. Alex Hunt with a corner into the path of Pearce who shot first time with his effort flying just over.
Alex Newby created himself a chance minutes later with some clever footwork down the left, his resulting shot also going over.
City finally found their reward after 60 minutes. Joe Grey with a short ball into Alex Newby who finished the ball home first time to get City level.
The game was turned on it’s head instantly. Harry Boyes on his debut finding room to shoot before drilling the ball past Brad Young from a right angle to give City the lead.
Bristol Rovers were handed a penalty in the 77th minute for a slight push in the box. Tommy Leigh stepped up and sent McNally the wrong way to draw level.
It took just three minutes for City to retake the lead. A ball in from the left reaching Harry Boyes at the back post who nodded the ball past Young and into the net.
City remained calm in the closing stages to clinch the three points.
