Match Report | York City 4-0 Ebbsfleet United

York City won 4-0 against Ebbsfleet United at the LNER Community Stadium in Vanarama National League action on Saturday afternoon.

A brace from Ollie Pearce, alongside goals from Tyrese Sinclair and debutant Luca Thomas, cemented a convincing City victory.

Manager Adam Hinshelwood made two changes to the side which took on Biggleswade FC in the Emirates FA Cup.

Harrison Male returned between the sticks, with Billy Chadwick dropping out for Ricky Aguiar in midfielder.

Fleets struck the first chance of the afternoon when head tennis back and forth between the two sides concluded with Antony Stewart hitting wide on the half volley.

Winger Ty Sinclair threatened first for York too in the 12th minute, latching onto a cross hung up in the air by Joe Felix, but planting it over the bar.

Ebbsfleet captain Josh Wright then looked to have ploughed through the winger inside the area five minutes later, however referee James Bancroft blew the other way and booked Sinclair.

Two fine stops from Fleets shot-stopper Mark Cousins prevented Ricky Aguiar from close range, before Sinclair’s header on the rebound was tipped away too.

Further stops by Cousins later in the half prevented a whipped shot from Aguiar after he came in from the left flank, and a Dipo Akinyemi left-footed curler from the right.

The Minstermen did find an opener eventually, in a physical first half, when Aguiar slipped through Pearce who thumped home confidently with a 41st minute shot into the far corner.

Sinclair replicated his early headed chance again just before half time, latching onto a ball from the right and sending it closer on this occasion.

In the second half Harrison Male was on hand to prevent a possible early equaliser in the half, rushing out to stop the two-on-one chance from being converted by Ebbsfleet.

A second was notched in the 73rd minute through Sinclair, who finally got his deserved goal on the afternoon, when he sweetly struck a half volley well past Cousins following Pearce’s cross.

Pearce then doubled up for his brace in the 86th minute. After substitute Callum Harriott slid in debutant Luca Thomas, who drew a close range save, the ball went back in again for Pearce to pounce at from yards out.

Thomas stuck a fourth on Ebbsfleet deep into added time, striking a 90+6 minute effort from just inside the area after Alex Hunt’s pinpoint pick out.

A hat-trick was so nearly on the cards for Pearce who spun and hit from distance in the 90+9th minute, rattling the woodwork ultimately though.

York City are next in action at the LNER Community Stadium on Tuesday night when they host Barnet (7.45pm kick off) in a top of the table clash.
