York City won 4-0 against Yeovil in the Vanarama National League at the LNER Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Minstermen returned to winning ways following defeat at Forest Green Rovers, with hat-trick hero Ollie Pearce claiming the headlines.

Adam Hinshelwood made four changes to the side which fall to defeat away to Forest Green.

Adam Crookes, Tyrese Sinclair, Marvin Armstrong and Ricky Aguiar came in for the injured Cam John, Dipo Akinyemi, Ashley Nathaniel-George and Dan Batty.

Yeovil claimed the first corner of the afternoon, resulting in captain Morgan Williams nodding over following a re-delivery by James Plant.

Finn Cousin-Dawson was sent marching for an early shower after just ten minutes when Tyrese Sinclair latched on to a mistake, resulting in the defender fouling him in an attempt to win the ball back as the last man.

Ollie Pearce superbly dispatched the free kick won, going low to slot past Oliver Wright in net.

Plant fall inside City’s area in the 25th minute. The winger got between Joe Felix and Harrison Male on the long ball, however he went past City’ shot-stopper before falling.

Two minutes later, Alex Hunt wrapped a curled shot goalwards off his right foot, sending it just wide from outside the box.

The Minstermen continued to plug away in the first half in search for further goals.

Chances for Pearce and Marvin Armstrong didn’t quite land right for either player, who saw their chances saved and go wide respectively.

Armstrong did go on to setup Tyrese Sinclair for his fourth goal of the season in the 45th minute.

The winger swept home after receiving the ball out on the left, forcing a mistake out of Wright.

Ricky Aguiar squandered a chance straight out the blocks in the second half, firing over Pearce’s cross at close range from the right flank.

Winger David Ajiboye then steered a chance ten minutes later wide after engaging in a one-two with Armstrong, who provided the perfect lay off for the winger to run on to and hit at.

Defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott setup Pearce for his second in the 63rd minute.

A slicing through ball from the on-loan central defender enabled Pearce to chase before planting his shot off the far post and in at the other side.

Pearce so nearly could’ve bagged the hat-trick at close range in the 70th minute, prevented by Wright before Hunt’s follow up was blocked out for a corner.

Instead, the forward flicked the resulting corner into the far side of goal to wrap up his hat-trick in style.

Substitute Luca Thomas, who extended his stay with The Minstermen until January during the week, was next in the queue to try and inflict damage on Yeovil.

The youngster skipped past a defender inside the area in the 77th minute, rocketing a right-footed shot at goal before curling Dominic Bernard’s poor clearance wide four minutes later.

Bernard put Yeovil down to nine men in the closing minutes after recklessly, and unnecessarily, clattering through Ashley Nathaniel-George with a late tackle.
