York City are pleased to reveal the signing of midfielder Hiram Boateng, following his release from Mansfield Town.
The 29-year-old joins City officially on July 1st, bringing an end to his successful three-year spell with the Stags.
Originally from London, Boateng joined the Crystal Palace Academy at the age of eight, progressing through to eventually first team contention, having picked up multiple awards along the way.
While with the Eagles, he spent time on loan in the Football League with Crawley Town, Bristol Rovers, Plymouth Argyle, and Northampton Town.
After thirteen years at Selhurst Park, Boateng left for Exeter City in 2017. He impressed in his two seasons there, playing 77 times for the League Two side.
Next, he would spend a couple of years at MK Dons, a division higher.
In his first year there, he would appear 28 times, scoring once, before spending the majority of the following campaign at Cambridge United.
That would end up being one of the midfielder’s most successful career periods, helping guide the U’s to promotion as the League Two runners-up.
Back at MK Dons, Boateng had one more year there, where he was given regular minutes throughout the season, also chipping in with four goals.
Following his contract ending at Stadium MK in 2022, he joined Mansfield.
The Stags narrowly missed out on a play-off place at the end of his initial term, in which Boateng had become a popular figure in the midfield and solidified his place in the team.
Having never scored more than one goal in a senior game before, the 29-year-old was an unlikely hat-trick hero against Harrogate on route to promotion in 2023/24.
Last season, he clocked up over 40 League One appearances for Mansfield, and now leaves to sign for the Minstermen.
Welcome to York, Hiram!
