City U19s look to bounce back

25th November 2018

City's Under-19s host leaders Guiseley on Monday at Wigginton Road in the National League Under-19 Alliance Division I (kick-off 1pm).

The team will be looking to bounce back after suffering a first league defeat of the season against Darlington on Wednesday afternoon.

Youth team manager Tim Ryan said: "It was an awful pitch and the players need to use the game as a learning experience. They are not always going to be playing on nice pitches with nice facilities like we have at our football club."

Darlington had been reduced to ten men shortly before the interval following a red card challenge on midfielder Reiss Harrison.

City enjoyed the majority of the possession in the second half but were unable to find a way through Darlington's defence and conceded on the counter-attack in the last minute of the game.

"We must learn to combat all sorts of elements and how to deal with playing against 10 men. As long as we do that, the lads will be better for the experience," said Ryan.

City are now third in the table, two points behind Guiseley, but could return to top spot with a victory on Monday afternoon.

Midfielder Will Jackson is currently sidelined with a knee injury suffered against Salford City in the League Cup. Defender Josh Rogerson missed the Darlington game with a hamstring strain.

City (V Darlington): Whitley; Cawthorn, Stuart, Watson; R.Harrison, Thompson(C), Whitfield, Jebson-King; A.Harrison (D.Jackson 60); Ventura, Henderson (Overton HT). Unused substitutes: Binsley, Haigh.
