Ryan happy with U19 pre-season progress

By Bradley Saxton | 2nd August 2022

Youth Team Manager Tim Ryan has been very pleased with how the U19’s pre-season preparations have gone so far this summer.

With only a month to go until the National League Alliance Academy North campaign gets underway for the Young Minstermen, the youth-team manager has been pleased with what he has seen from his new-look squad.

We caught up with Ryan to find out his thoughts on his squad’s progression ahead of new league campaign starting next-month.

He said “Pre-season has been good so far, we’ve played three pre-season games so far against different types of opponents.

“We’ve taken on a Premier League academy side in Everton, a competitive men’s Northern League side in Northallerton and a young Rotherham United team.

“Each game has offered different challenges, but we’ve been beaten by a single goal in each game and the boys have all battled well in these games, they’ve all been a really good learning curve for the lads coming into the group this season.”

A new intake of first-year scholars have been taken on by the club this summer, who Ryan feels add strength and depth to a side who finished last season strongly in the National League Alliance.

He went on to add “The new first-year scholars' have all settled in very well so far, they have gelled well with the second and the third-years.

“We’ve been really happy with the intake of first-year scholars this summer, they all offer us something really different.

“With them being confident in games and feeling comfortable so far within the youth-team environment, it shows that they have some real confidence about themselves and I’m sure they’ll all do well this season.”

The new academy intake will be announced shortly ahead of the upcoming National League Alliance U19 Academy North campaign next month.
