City profit from sale of Ben Godfrey to Everton

5th October 2020

York City Football Club would like to congratulate Ben Godfrey on his move to Everton.

As part of the deal with Norwich City negotiated by the Chairman in 2016, York City will receive a sell-on fee percentage on top of performance-related bonuses based upon club and international appearances and honours.

We’ll continue to follow Ben with interest and wish him all the best for his move to the Premier League.

York City Chairman, Jason McGill added: "Ben is a home-grown talent who came through our academy system in 2014. His move back to the Premier League is well deserved and a testament to his determination and character he displayed even as a York City player. We are pleased he is joining the long line of academy graduates to make a name for themselves at the top level.

"The money due through the sell-on clause and additional bonuses couldn't have come at a better time for the football club where there has been a significant loss of income through the impact of COVID-19.

"It will help the club grow on and off the field in which will be an exciting few years for York City."
