CLUB STATEMENT: Flares at Football Grounds

6th August 2019

York City Football Club would like to remind fans that flares or smoke grenades are banned at home and away fixtures and using one is a criminal offence at all football grounds.

Letting off a firework, flare or smoke bomb at a sports stadium could result in a police prosecution, banning orders and prison sentences.

The club will also support the FA in their launch of a national campaign to educate and raise awareness on the dangers of ‘pyrotechnics at football grounds’.

Many flares and smoke bombs burn at temperatures which melt steel and can cause serious health issues such as severe lung damage, irregular heatbeat and cardiac failure.

We anticipate that fans will support this initiative in the hope that supporters are protected in a safe environment whilst cheering on their team.
