End of season update for supporters

By Dan Simmonite | 30th March 2021

With another season coming to a conclusion, we take time to reassess and make plans for 2021/22, starting with providing fan updates as a way of keeping supporters informed during the off season.

We’d like to begin by thanking you for your continued support during the ups and downs this past year and appreciate your patience and understanding whilst we navigate the uncertainty.

Naturally, player signings are at the top of the agenda. As it stands, all first team players and staff have been placed on furlough and a player retained list will be published in the summer. Six players are currently contracted for next season.

Bootham Crescent

In December 2020 we played our final competitive game at Bootham Crescent, a 1-0 win over Guiseley in front of a crowd of 627. Since then, the National League North season has been curtailed and the last official match took place with a 3-1 victory over Gateshead in a friendly.

Due to the ongoing situation with Covid restrictions and the timing of our stadium move we haven’t been able to realise our original farewell plans with a sell-out crowd.

However, with the importance of a farewell opportunity in mind, we would like to announce our intentions for a play-on-the-pitch charity match to see off our time at the 88-year-old ground with our supporters taking to the field next month.

We will also be hosting a raffle for two lucky supporters to take part in the final floodlight switch on scheduled for the last week in April.

More details will be announced shortly.

Demolition of the site, ready for the next Phase of the Bootham Crescent sale will begin shortly after the relocation of ashes and urns, farewell opportunity and floodlight switch on. The site will be handed over to Persimmon Homes thereafter.

Legacy Plans

We announced plans in January to preserve areas of Bootham Crescent for the housing development. With thanks to Historic England and Persimmon Homes, we are also submitting six place names on the site to be considered by City of York Council.

Our intention is to involve supporters in the decision making and open up a shortlist of potential place names for submission. More information on how to get involved will be released soon.

All wooden seats have now sold out, with other seating still available. The floodlights at Bootham Crescent are still for sale.

LNER Community Stadium

We played our first game at the new stadium against AFC Fylde last month and now look forward to planning our pre-season schedule at the LNER Community Stadium – dates TBC.

The 2021/22 league season will begin on Saturday 14th August 2021.

The Commercial team are also planning events and finalising hospitality packages for the new season. Please email for enquiries around match packagaes.

We realise from feedback on social media that there are a few unanswered questions regarding the move, therefore have set up a FAQs page on our website which will be added to shortly.

Season Tickets

We anticipate that in line with the government’s roadmap fans will be able to return in limited capacity to sporting events from 17th May at the earliest.

Discussions regarding ticketing pricing and availability for season tickets are happening and information will be released in due course.

Tickets will be available in person at the LNER Community Stadium and from our new online ticketing portal.

Club Shop

A new range of products have been added to the online store, in partnership with The Terrace; including mugs, coasters and bar runners.

The Club Shop at Bootham Crescent is still open for click-and-collect and auction item collections. Please click here to find opening hours.

Our 2020/21 kit is available at a discounted rate from the online store

An announcement will come shortly on a new kit provider, with our deal with Under Amour concluding at the end of the 2020/21 season.

The media team has finished Phase 1 of the club’s website refresh, with a modernised navigation system to improve user experience and an increased emphasis on the York City Ladies team – ran through the Foundation.

Upgrades will continue in the off season with the transition to the LNER Community Stadium. Any feedback on potential changes is, as always, greatly appreciated.
