Fan Update after the pre-season friendlies

By Dan Simmonite | 29th July 2021

After the positive start to life at the LNER Community Stadium with performances against Newcastle United, Sunderland and Middlesbrough we would like to update supporters on various points ahead of the start of the National League North season.

We have been listening to feedback from supporters and are looking to make key decisions and tailor our fan engagement towards supporter’s responses to make for a more enjoyable matchday experience.

Season Tickets Sales Update

As of today, the club has sold over 1,200 season tickets for the upcoming season which is more than our previous total with over 2 weeks to go until the start of the season.

We would like to thank all the fans for their outstanding support and can’t wait to welcome our loyal supporters back in August.

Our Commercial team is currently speaking with partners and businesses around the Vangarde shopping park and York city centre for a rewards and benefits scheme exclusively for season ticket holders.

Season Ticket cards will start to be printed from next week and supporters will be notified once their card is available for collection from the Ticket Office. Please note cards will be printed stand by stand with a staggered pick up approach.

The Ticket Office and phone lines for sales are open Mon-Fri 10am-4pm. Phone direct on 01904 942232 or email tickets@yorksmc.co.uk

Stadium Capacity / Kidderminster Tickets

Back in June, we updated our supporters on the situation with the 2,000 capped attendances at the LNER Community Stadium for our open training session and three pre-season fixtures, as requested by the Stadium Advisory Group and City of York Council.

We have now applied for the certificate for increased attendances and are eagerly awaiting a response as soon as possible so we can maximise the opportunity for the club to host a big crowd on the opening game on Saturday 14th August against Kidderminster.

There is a meeting on Thursday 5th August where we hope to find out the status of our stadium capacity. We will keep fans updated and release ticketing information as soon as possible.

In the meantime, supporters who have purchased a season ticket will have guaranteed access to the Kidderminster fixture.

Car Parking / Travel

The club has produced both a Travel and Car Parking guide ahead of the new season to give supporters the full view of options to visit the LNER Community Stadium.

For Car Parking information please click here.

For Travel information please click here.

Car parking within the pre-paid supporter car park has been seamless, with supporters buying their pass online with their match ticket and scanning the barcode with the car parking steward upon entry. The car park pass is valid from 11:30am on a Saturday matchday and 4:30pm on a midweek matchday.

The car park holds a maximum of 400 cars, which represents a big increase in what was available at the old ground Bootham Crescent.

Club Shop / PUMA Merchandise

We are delighted to be able to welcome our new Retail Assistant Julie Atkinson who will oversee retail activity for the club both in-store and online.

Under supervision from Julie, the Club Shop at the LNER Community Stadium is now up and running with pre-orders on Replica Kit now being posted out. Customers who opted for collection will be notified via email once their order is available.

PUMA merchandise is on order, which will see hoodies, polo shirts, training tops, shorts and socks become available shortly.

We are also pleased to announce that a small selection of replica goalkeeper shirts will be available soon after taking in feedback from supporters.

You can purchase online 24/7 with international delivery available.

Club Shop opening hours can be found here.

Ticketing Issues

Naturally, moving into a new stadium and with a new online ticketing system and electric turnstiles we knew there would be teething problems and have used the open training session as well as the three pre-season fixtures to highlight issues that could potentially arise on a matchday.

From this, we have created a Ticketing FAQs page that answers supporter's questions we have received and shows the types of tickets available for purchase.

We have also collated feedback for the Stadium Management Company (SMC) and GLL who are working at resolving the matchday issues, whilst we have acted as a club to put new processes in place;

  • Online ticketing sales for future games should become easier to access with no Covid overlay affecting the sales process and the option to pick individual seats and see which areas are sold out.
  • The SMC has invested in additional resource to man the Ticket Office and ease the strain on the phone lines.
  • YCFC Volunteers have been deployed on matchdays as way finders to help people with questions and directions outside the ground.
  • The club has stressed the importance of the South Stand being unallocated seating, with stewards receiving a full briefing and match tickets reflecting this.

We hope these new processes will allow for a smoother matchday experience in future games and we thank supporters for their patience and co-operation with the ticketing system which has improved game upon game – enabling the club to sell over 2,000 tickets online per game which is a step in the right direction to bring York City into the modern era.

Supporters who usually pay on the day are encouraged to register their details on the ticketing website before visiting the stadium which will make the payment process quicker and reduce queuing.

2019/20 season ticket holders who were registered on the ticketing website by the SMC but unable to login using their details are asked to contact the Ticket Office directly on 01904 942232 or visit in person where a member of staff will be able to assist and activate their account.

Centenary Season

York City Football Club is 100 years old in 2022 and to celebrate this occasion the club is working towards its plans for the 2022/23 season which will see several events and special fixtures during the season.

The club has also sourced a designer to work on a one-off Centenary crest which will be used for the duration of the 2022/23 season, on matchday kit and merchandise. As the club starts the design process the aim is to allow fan input and set up focus groups to finalise a crest the club can be proud of.

We will keep supporters up to date with plans.

Bootham Crescent

We are pleased to announce that after a fan's vote, one of Tony Cole’s Bootham Crescent images will be printed and placed within the South Stand concourse at the LNER Community Stadium along with four wooden seats from the old Main Stand. ‘Option C’ won the vote, with 325 votes (45% of the overall participants).

The club hopes to have this in place for the start of the National League North season. The Pop Stand Clock is also back with the club after refurbishment and will be placed above the Fanzone concessions bar. The installation date is still to be confirmed but the club hopes to have this in place for the first league fixture.

At the old ground, Bootham Crescent, the floodlights have been taken down and work continues with preparing for the sale of the site.

Future projects at the old Bootham Crescent site include the naming of streets and buildings on the future development in which the club is working with Club Historian Paul Bowser and will including supporters in the decision making and submission of names for consideration by City of York Council and Persimmon Homes.

The bricks in the car park at Bootham Crescent have now been taken down and are in storage ready for installation at the memorial garden on the future housing development.

Thank you to our supporters for your continued support in our transition to the new stadium. Your feedback and kind words are appreciated by everyone at York City Football Club.

We hope to see you at the LNER Community Stadium soon.
