Fan Update ahead of Centenary Launch

By Dan Simmonite | 4th March 2022

We would like to provide an update to supporters on various points ahead of our Centenary launch which is scheduled for May 2022, along with changes at the LNER Community Stadium and future club projects.

The club will be providing regular monthly updates like these moving forward. In the meantime, if supporters have further questions which we may be able to answer in future updates please email enquiries@yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk

We will be in touch with more information on the Centenary Launch in due course.

Centenary Year Launch

Plans for the 100-year centenary celebrations are well underway, with dates now finalised for initial events to launch the year-long celebrations.

The club will officially launch with an event on Friday 6th May 2022 – the day York City Football Club turns 100 years old. A follow up event will take place on Sunday 8th May 2022.

At these events supporters will get an exclusive unveiling of the new centenary badge, next season’s kits, and limited-edition merchandise.

We would like supporters to be involved in the planning of future events which will take place throughout the year and are asking for suggestions via the form below.

Bootham Crescent Legacy

Over the course of the last few weeks the club has worked in conjunction with the York Press and Club Historian Paul Bowser to highlight key moments in Bootham Crescent history, leading up to the Legacy Project and the naming of the four apartment blocks on site.

We have had over 200 responses and will collate all names to share with Persimmon Homes, who will make the final decision with City of York Council on the names chosen.

You can still suggest names by clicking here.

Further projects which include a space within the Nfinnerty Stand concourse to remember our old ground and a voluntary group of supporters to maintain the legacy area on the Bootham Crescent site which will be announced in due course.

Negotiations are still ongoing with Persimmon over the sale of the site.

Ticketing Update

The Ticket Office will now open 7 days a week to meet demand – new hours are as follows:

Monday to Friday: 10:00am – 4:00pm

Weekend (non-matchday): 10:00am - 4:00pm

Saturday (matchday): 12:00pm – 4:00pm

Midweek (matchday): 2:00pm - 8.45pm

You can contact the Ticket Office directly by emailing tickets@yorksmc.co.uk or by calling 01904 942232.

An upgrade of the ticketing system also took place earlier this week, which will hopefully provide an improved user experience for supporters.

Supporter Safety

The York SMC has taken steps to improve supporter safety at the LNER Community Stadium.

Supporters can TEXT ‘YORK’ to 60060 with details of any issues at the stadium on a matchday and staff will be on the other end to resolve problems that arise.

Signs around the ground also display this information for supporters.

Scoreboard at the LNER Community Stadium

We are currently leading a project to explore the stadium’s options to replace the current scoreboard with a larger, more advanced screen which can display graphics and customised messages, whilst providing commercial opportunities.

We are liaising with City of York Council, GLL, York City Knights and the Stadium Management Company to strike a deal and provide a solution which will benefit all parties.

YCFC Foundation Community Ticket Scheme

This season the YCFC Foundation has run two community ticket games, a scheme which allows groups in York such as schoolchildren or grassroots players to attend games at the LNER Community Stadium free of charge – to inspire the next generation of supporters.

So far this season the club has averaged a crowd of 3,042 on the 20 games played at the new stadium, with recent crowds of over 4,500 against Chorley and 3,600 against Guiseley.

The Foundation has plans for a further community ticket game which will be announced once a fixture has been finalised.

We would like to thank our supporters and the people of York for the incredible response to our ticketing initiatives.

Ballboys and Ballgirls

Since government/league restrictions have allowed, the club has provided opportunities for grassroots clubs in York to participate as ballboys and ballgirls on matchdays.

We have received a great response to our initial outreach via the local York Mitchell League and have junior teams booked in until the end of the season.

If you have a junior team in or around York who would like to register interest for next season, please click here to fill out our online form.
