Fan Update - November

By Dan Simmonite | 3rd November 2021

We would like to update supporters on various plans and changes at the club after the first few months of settling into our new home.

After listening to feedback from supporters we have made a number of changes to improve fan engagement and the matchday experience at the LNER Community Stadium.

We would appreciate any further feedback by emailing enquiries@yorkcityfootballclub.co.uk

LNER Community Stadium

We are delighted to announce that the Stadium Management Company (SMC) has obtained a safety certificate from City of York Council to allow a full capacity crowd at the LNER Community Stadium – effective immediately in time for our Emirates FA Cup first round tie against Buxton this Saturday.

The LNER Community Stadium has now hosted 13 York City fixtures, during this time we have been collating fan feedback and are pleased to announce the upcoming changes which we hope will improve the matchday experience for our supporters.

  • YO1 Radio hosting in the Fanzone to add to the atmosphere, with full branding and stage still to come for live acts.
  • Shelving and tables within the YO1 Radio Fanzone area for food and drink.
  • Signage in and around the stadium to help with navigation.
  • Disabled parking now available to purchase from the online ticketing system.
  • Pop up ticket booth located outside of the Azuma (East) stand turnstiles – subject to City of York Council approval.
  • Matchday volunteers to help with various aspects including: wayfinding, matchday programmes, 50/50, hospitality and social media output.

Bootham Crescent Sale

A Section 106 agreement is now being signed which completes the planning permission approval including items or costs the developer must contract with the Council to provide or pay - e.g. affordable housing, education contributions and others.

Once this is completed then the procedures leading to a sale set out in the option agreement made between Bootham Crescent Holdings Ltd and Persimmon Homes can be progressed.

The agreed method of valuation will then proceed and hopefully a satisfactory and speedy outcome can be reached.

An update will be provided once the negotiations have concluded.

Other work relating to Bootham Crescent will be released in more detail shortly. This will include on behalf of Persimmon Homes and the City Council seeking supporter’s suggestions for the naming the 4 apartment blocks to be included in the development.

A road named after David Longhurst and a footpath and cycle track attributed to Keith Walwyn have already been approved.

Farewell Bootham Crescent

We can now announce plans for a final walkaround of Bootham Crescent later this month, scheduled for Sunday 28th November.

This will be a FREE event open to all members of the public and available to book here from Tuesday at 10am next week.

We also plan to sell all remaining items from the ground at this event.

Further details will follow.

Centenary Year

The club’s centenary year will officially start on our 100th Birthday on May 6th 2022.

A new one-off club badge and bespoke PUMA kits are in the process of being designed by Christopher Payne for use in the duration of the 2022/23 season.

In September we asked supporters to fill out a survey to start the process of the new one-off brand, which attracted nearly 400 responses. Supporters also took part in focus group sessions throughout October – with colours, badges and kit designs discussed which will shape the direction of the 100-year brand.

Plans by our commercial team are currently being drawn up for special events for the duration of the Centenary year and will be announced in due course.

Website Upgrades

For the first time ever, the York City Football Club website now lists fixtures, results, tables, and reports from both the Ladies Team and Youth Team (U19s).

This is part of a wider project to further promote all aspects of the club and made possible with Media Interns Olly Wood and Bradley Saxton who joined the club in the summer.

You can follow the Ladies team on Twitter here.

Match Programmes/50-50 Draw

Due to popular demand, we are now posting match programmes which are bought from the online store.

Click here to see the hard copies available to purchase from previous games.

Programme sellers are located at every open turnstile at the LNER Community Stadium and can be identified in their hi-vis vests.

50/50 draw tickets are also available from these sellers with several prizes now on offer as well as the usual cash prize.
