McNulty still confident of success this season

14th February 2020

Club captain Steve McNulty remains confident that the club can enjoy success this season, ahead of Saturday’s game against Hereford.

Since signing for the Minstermen in the summer, the experienced defender has captained the team to second place in the National League North table.

Speaking ahead of the visit of Hereford, McNulty highlighted how determined the team was to finish the current campaign strongly.

“We are always determined, and we always want to go out and win every game,” said McNulty.

“Obviously, the result on Saturday was very disappointing. We went into the game with confidence after a very good result against Chester, but these things happen.

“You speak to people who say Kings Lynn have won it already but there are a lot of points to play for and a lot of games left to play.”

With former Football League sides Boston United, Darlington, Kidderminster Harriers and Hereford calling the National League North home, City have found it difficult to make their way back up the football pyramid in recent years.

But with multiple promotions under his belt and Steve Watson steering the ship, McNulty believes York share similarities to some of his former teams.

“Other clubs that I have been at in the past, like Luton and Tranmere, were sleeping giants, the same as York,” said McNulty

“York are a renown former Football League club. It is our job, as a group, to get the club back where it belongs.”

Despite last weekend’s loss, the Minstermen were backed by 400 travelling supporters, something which McNulty pointed out hasn’t gone unnoticed by the City squad.

“They have been great all season and have backed us home and away. Their support inspires the lads and it gives them a real boost when things aren’t going well on the pitch.

“They are going to have to play a massive part this season because we have got 12 games still to play.

“Hopefully we can do it for them.”
