Mills calls for home delivery

14th August 2017

Gary Mills wants his players to put on a solid home performance on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm) against Darlington after impressive back-to-back victories on the road.

The Minstermen lost the opening game of the season against AFC Telford United at Bootham Crescent but have subsequently won away at Blyth Spartans and Bradford Park Avenue.

They are now preparing to host second-placed Darlington who are one of only three teams in National League North still boasting a 100 per cent record after three games.

Mills said: "It's set up for a good game, a good evening, and we have got to show our fans that we can bounce back at home having lost the first game and start being a team where teams coming to play us know it's not going to be easy.

"They are going to be one of the teams who will be up there or thereabouts. They have won their first three games which proves me right," he added. "They will know they are in for a tough game. We know we are in for a tough game. It's about us performing on the night.

"Darlington are a team trying to bounce back like ourselves and get back to the level that they want to get back to. They have got good players and they will want to prove to us at York that they are going to be the team to beat this season. We have to show what we are about, after two away wins. and put on a performance like we did on Saturday at home."

Mills confirmed that striker Jon Parkin is set to miss out again and will have a scan on his calf injury.

"He's having a scan to see if we can find anything," said Mills. "He's feeling his calf and it feels like it's going to pull. At the moment, we are resting him to see if we can clear it up - but he's having a scan to see if there's anything more serious."

Defender Hamza Bencherif, sent off for two bookable offences against Bradford Park Avenue, is available to play on Tuesday night but serves a one game ban against Nuneaton Town on Saturday.
