Mills: "We have to bounce back"

6th August 2017

York City manager Gary Mills spoke to the media after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by AFC Telford United.

Admitting that the display was 'not the way we wanted to start,' Mills challenged his players to bounce back at Blyth Spartans on Tuesday night.

"We have got a game on Tuesday and we have got to bounce back. We know we can do a lot, lot better than that," he said.

"I was reasonably happy with the first half and didn't see them scoring other than from the chance they had. The keeper has kept them in it. Two or three saves from the goalkeeper have cost us a draw.

"We didn't continue to play in the second half how we did in the first half," he added. "Overall, it was not a good enough performance.

"It was a disappointing day and not the way we wanted to start - but you have to have broad shoulders and we have to bounce back on Tuesday.

"It's one game and we have got a whole season to go," he stressed. "You never want to lose the first game, you always want to start well. We haven't and we have got to go and show on Tuesday that we are big enough to bounce back."

Blyth, meanwhile, opened their season with a 2-0 defeat at Alfreton.
