Practice match next on agenda

31st July 2017

YORK City's preparations for the new season will continue on Tuesday afternoon with a 'behind closed doors' practice match against a Bradford City under-23 side.

This fixture is NOT open to the public but will allow manager Gary Mills a final opportunity to assess his side in action before Saturday's opening league fixture of the season against AFC Telford United at Bootham Crescent.

"Now is the time I feel we have to start looking at the team that is possibly going to start next Saturday," said Mills. "That’s why we brought in another friendly on Tuesday.

"We will not only train this week, we will rest," he added. "So that we are mentally and physically totally focused come three o'clock on Saturday."

Defender Hamza Bencherif, meanwhile, is receiving treatment on a back injury that led to his halftime substitution against Notts County at the weekend.

"Hamza has a bit of a problem in his back, the top of his shoulder," said Mills. "It's like a bit of a spasm. He was in a lot of pain. It’s a nervy thing.

"It needs to be released but, because it's right under his rib cage at the back there, its difficult to get to. He should be OK for the Telford game," he added.
