York City’s New ‘Signing’ & Remembrance Fixture Announcement

York City Football Club are proud to announce the plans for the club’s annual Remembrance fixture, as well as release details of a commitment to support the country’s military personnel.

New Signing – The Armed Forces Covenant

York City Football Club will proudly mark its commitment to current and former military personnel by signing the Armed Forces Covenant ahead of the Kidderminster Harriers F.C. fixture on Saturday.

The Armed Forces Covenant is the nation’s pledge to those who serve in the armed forces, or have done so previously, along with their dependents, to be treated with fairness and respect.

The covenant will be signed approximately thirty minutes before kick-off, with officials from the club and representatives from the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force standing by for an official signing and presentation.

The Armed Forces – through the Reserve Forces & Cadet Association Yorkshire and Humber – will be the club’s honorary match sponsors and the military representatives will be part of the official match photograph along with the match officials and club captains.

As part of its commitment to the covenant, following a review of the ticketing policy, the club will be looking to offer concessionary rates to military personnel wishing to purchase match tickets.

Further information and official photographs will be released following the signing.

Minstermen Remember – November 10th

Steve Watson’s side will take on Altrincham at Bootham Crescent on Remembrance Sunday in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup - this fixture has been nominated as the club’s annual Remembrance fixture.

Ahead of kick-off, wreaths will be laid on the pitch and those in attendance will be asked to observe the playing of the Last Post prior to the match getting underway.

The annual Remembrance Fixture is one of the key dates in the club’s calendar – in 2011 a specially commissioned Memorial Plaque was erected next to the player’s entrance at Bootham Crescent.

The Plaque bears the names of five former players of the club who sadly died in the Second World War, and in addition to these fallen Minstermen we also pay tribute to those who answered the call to serve the nation from both the City of York and across the country.

We will remember them.
