Club Establish Visit York Partnership

Visit York Launch
8th September 2017

York City Football Club is delighted to announce a brand new partnership with the City’s official tourism organisation, Visit York.

As a result of the partnership, York City will have a strong and visible City Centre presence with a wide range of merchandise available to the public at the Visitor Information Centre in Museum Street, right in the heart of the city.

The products available include York City home and away shirts, scarves, mugs and keyrings and it is hoped that, with fixture information also on display in the long-term, the partnership will raise awareness of the club significantly within the city.

As local residents will be aware, York receives nearly seven million visitors annually and the Visitor Information Centre, just a stone’s throw from York Minster, hosts 500,000 people every year, so this will be a huge step forward for the club to cement York City’s place within the life and culture of the city. The Visitor Information Centre is open seven days a week.

The partnership was launched today with the help of City players Amari Morgan-Smith, Theo Wharton and Louis Almond.

Julie Brookes, Visit York Visitor Centre Manager commented, “We are thrilled to be working with York City on this fantastic collaboration to be the first City Centre outlet for York City Football Club.  The football kit and merchandise is a great new addition to our retail offer and we're sure it will be very popular with locals, visitors and our international visitors looking to support the City's team.”

York City Head of Partnerships, Nick Greatrex said, “This partnership was one of my key objectives since beginning my role in Spring. A presence in the City Centre is absolutely vital to the expansion of our commercial activities, and I believe that this will be of huge benefit not only to the football club, but to our sponsors. Visit York is the perfect partner to achieve our goal of raising awareness of York City. Hopefully our hard work to secure this deal will pay off.”

York City Head of Media & Supporter Engagement, Phil Howden said, “York City supporters have bemoaned the lack of a City Centre presence for a number of years. While I believe the Club still has a lot of work to do in promoting itself within the City, this partnership with Visit York lays the foundation for what I hope will be the first of many exciting opportunities for the Club in the centre of York. It’s important that the pride the supporters have in the Club is reflected well enough that every visitor to York knows about it.”
