Adam Senior loaned from Bolton

By Dan Simmonite | 12th November 2021

York City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of defender Adam Senior on a one-month youth loan deal from Bolton Wanderers.

The 19-year-old previously played on loan for Ashton United on loan this season, making seven appearances and scoring three goals from right back.

Speaking after joining York City, Senior said: “I’m buzzing, I trained this morning with the lads and it’s good – the gaffer is good and it’s a nice setup at the training ground and stadium – it’s brand new and looks class out there.

“I’m a full back who likes getting forward and I also like the defensive side as well.

“I want to help the team, develop myself and hopefully we go on a good run and see where it takes us.

“It will be a good experience for me, it’s something new and it’s about getting the experience against men and hopefully take that into my career with Bolton.”

Senior has made five first team appearances for hometown club Bolton after signing his first professional contract in May 2020.

Steve Watson added: “I’m really pleased to get a bit more balance to the squad – for a while now we’ve had square pegs in rounds holes in that position – Sam [Fielding] and Olly [Dyson] did well there for a long time – but to get a natural right back in can only help us.

“He is somebody who was highly recommended by his manager Ian Evatt – who I get on really well with and respect his opinion. He is the guy who I went to ask an opinion on Olly Dyson.

“It’s also the fact he has played a lot of games in the league below us which is the main thing you want from a 19-year-old – you want them to have played in that type of environment and knowing that they can physically handle it ticks a big box for us.

“He is very good on the ball as we’ve seen this morning and he’s added a couple of goals to his performances from right back which is always helpful.”

The defensive signing is a welcome addition to the management team who are currently without Scott Barrow, Michael Duckworth, Olly Dyson and Michael Woods through injury.

Watson added: “Duckworth is going to be at least another month which is the length of the loan for Adam. Scotty Barrow is actually joining in with us on Monday, but it is small steps. Obviously, we have had to get Newts through his rehab spell whilst playing – he’s been back coming up to a month now so we will soon see Sean back to the fitness levels he was before the injury.

“We are slowly getting there, and we are trying to build up the squad with players that will help us out in the short term. Certainly it’s been a welcome boost this week.”

Centre half Josh King is eligible for this Saturday, with his FA ban running out on the same day. Mackenzie Heaney is struggling with an illness and is doubtful for tomorrow’s game against Curzon Ashton.
