First team trio prospering on loan

By Bradley Saxton | 7th September 2021

Over the summer, the Minstermen loaned out a total number of three players to aid in their development to get further first-team experience. We take a look at how the players have got on so far in their spells away from the club.

Ryan Whitley (Scarborough Atheltic until January)

Ryan Whitley has made a bright start to his loan spell with Scarborough Athletic. The 21-year-old goalkeeper had a previous loan-spell last season with the Seasiders, before their season was cut short because of the Coronavirus pandemic.

In their first six games of the new Northern Premier League season, Scarborough sit in a comfortable 7th place, as he kept four clean sheets against Basford, Warrington, Gainsborough and Radcliffe.

Whitley's loan deal has a 24-hour recall clause, as well as no Cup permission which prevented him playing in their FA Cup clash with Witton Albion last weekend.

Archie Whitfield (Ossett United until January)

Another youth graduate who is currently away from the club is Archie Whitfield, who is on loan at Northern Premier League Division One East side Ossett United.

The former youth team captain is in his second year as a professional with the football club, but he is yet to make his competitive debut for the first team.

So far this season, he has appeared in every one of Ossett’s opening five league games, earning himself a man of the match performance in their game against Hebburn Town.

Reon Potts (Ossett United until January)

Striker Reon Potts is also on loan at Ossett United, as he looks to gain valuable first-team experience.

The former Scunthorpe United forward joined the Minstermen last summer after a trial period. After making multiple appearances from the bench last season, he signed a new deal with the club at the start of this season.

After joining Ossett United on loan until January, he has also gone on to appear in all five opening league games for the club alongside Whitfield.

He most recently found the back of the net twice in their recent game, as his goals earned the Sheepicorns a 3-3 draw with Lincoln United.
