Loan Watch: The Six Minstermen out on loan

By Bradley Saxton | 18th February 2022

The Minstermen currently have a total of six players out on loan as they all look to get minutes under their belts elsewhere.

In this article we take a look at how the six players are getting on in their current loan spells away from the Minstermen.

Ryan Whitley has been a regular in-between the sticks this season for 7th tier side Scarborough Athletic. He is currently in his second loan spell with the club, having a played a handful of games for them last season.

The 22-year-old has put in some very impressive performances for the Seadogs this season, as they currently sit 4th in the Northern Premier League table. He has so far made 31 appearances for the North Yorkshire side this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in the process.

Defender Lewis Cunningham recently joined Northern Premier League Division One East side Glossop North End on a one-month loan deal in order to get regular game time.

He made his debut for the club at left back last week against 1874 Northwich, where he helped the club keep a clean-sheet and record a 1-0 win in the league, before appearing at centre back in a friendly against Curzon Ashton last Friday.

He also had a short spell on loan at Warrington Rylands earlier this season, but he only played the one game for them before being recalled by the Minstermen before Christmas.

Fellow defender Sean Newton also left York on loan recently, after spending the past five years with the Minstermen. The 33-year-old joined the club in October 2016 on loan from Wrexham, before joining permanently three months later.

The three-time Clubman of the Year recently joined Northern Premier League side Buxton on loan until the end of season.

So far, he has made two appearances in a Bucks shirt and scored the winner on his debut in a 1-0 win over Basford United a couple of weeks ago.

Midfielder Mackenzie Heaney also joined Buxton recently, in a similar loan move until the end of the season.

He has made 21 appearances so far this season for the Minstermen, but struggled for game time since the arrival of John Askey as interim manager.

Since joining The Bucks, he has gone on to make a total of five appearances for the Northern Premier League side and scored his first goal for the club during Saturday’s 3-1 win away at Nantwich Town.

Former Youth Team captain Archie Whitfield enjoyed a loan spell with Ossett United in the first-half of the season, but he now finds himself out on loan at Northern Premier League Division One East side Bridlington Town.

He joined the club on a two-month loan deal a couple of weeks ago and so far he has gone on to make a total of six appearances for the 8th tier side.

Forward Reon Potts has also gone back out on loan, after also spending the first-half of the season with Ossett United. He has recently joined up with Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old made his debut for Trinity last weekend, coming off the bench in their 3-2 win over FC United of Manchester, before appearing on Tuesday night in their win over Boston United in the Lincolnshire FA County Senior Cup.
