Ladies travel to Wakefield this Sunday

By Olly Wood | 18th May 2022

The Minsterbelles are back on the road for their penultimate game of the season as they travel to West Yorkshire to play Wakefield AFC this Sunday.

Having been crowned league champions two weeks ago City continued their strong league form picking up a fifteenth win last weekend, beating Harrogate Town 5-1.

Rebecca Hunt, Rebecca Fevers and a hattrick from top goal scorer Sophie Tinson helped York record back-to-back 5-1 wins over the fellow North Yorkshire side.

The previous meeting against Wakefield this season saw City run out 4-1 winners thanks to goals from Jo Symington, Shannon Durkin and a brace from Sophie Tinson.

Wakefield come into the game on the back of a 4-0 defeat against second placed Ossett but their previous two games this month saw them pick up back-to-back wins, 4-2 at home to Wallsend and a 2-3 win away at Farsley.

This weekend’s clash is the hosts final game of the season, a win could see them into the top five if South Shields don’t pick up a win in their final match.

The two top scorers this season also go head-to-head on Sunday. City’s Sophie Tinson leads the way having scored 39 goals in all competitions followed by Wakefield’s Neve Renwick who has scored 31 in all competitions.
