York City are delighted to announce the permanent signing of defender Malachi Fagan-Walcott from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old made the loan move from the Championship club back in early September and has impressed hugely for the Minstermen so far.
Fagan-Walcott started his youth at Norsemen FC where he signed at the age of nine, before stepping up to Tottenham Hotspur four years later.
He gained plenty of experience while at Spurs, appearing in the EFL Trophy, and making his UEFA Champions League debut off the bench away at RB Leipzig.
The defender also spent time on loan at Dundee in 2021, a couple of years before moving on from Spurs and signing for Cardiff City.
Initially playing regularly for their U21s, he was sent out on loan to Dunfermline to pick up more senior appearances, which he did, scoring three goals in 15 games.
The centre-back made his Championship debut against Burnley back in August.
Fagan-Walcott linked up with City ahead of our trip to Wealdstone, where he made his first appearance in red and blue off the bench.
Since then, he has notched seven clean sheets and played a total of 1,345 Vanarama National League minutes this season for the Minstermen.
Not only has the 22-year-old formed part of a solid defence, but he has contributed at the other end of the pitch as well, recording three assists, and a crucial goal away at FC Halifax Town which started the memorable injury-time fightback away at The Shay.
Good to have you with us, Malachi!
The deal will come into play on Thursday 2nd January 2025.
Subject to league and FA approval & international clearance.
