York City sign Will Davies for undisclosed fee

York City is delighted to announce the capture of forward Will Davies for an undisclosed fee from Vanarama National League South side Braintree Town.

The 24-year-old striker joins the Minstermen on a long-term deal after making an impressive start to the season with the National League South side, where he has netted eight goals in fifteen appearances.

After only joining Braintree in the summer, Davies previously featured for Southern Premier Central Division side Leiston, where he netted 33 goals in all competitions last season as he helped the club secure a third place finish in the league.

His impressive form in front of goal last season saw him named as Leiston’s ‘Blues Supporter’s Player of the Year’, after leaving where he left off from the previous campaign, after he netted 19 goals in all competitions during the 2021/22 campaign.

Speaking on his arrival at the football club, Davies said: “I’m buzzing to be here and I can’t wait to get going.

“I spoke to the gaffer earlier on this week and he knows I want to push on, so it was a no brainer about coming to York.

“I’m really looking forward to going full-time and pushing on, hopefully I can take my form from the start of the season straight into this.”

City manager Neal Ardley expressed his delight at being able to get the forward’s capture over the line, saying: “I’m really delighted to bring Will into the football club and I’m really glad that we’ve been able to add a striker who can add to what we already have here at the club.

“He’s a player who we’ve had our eye on for a while, he’s made the step up to the National League South this season with Braintree and his performances have caught the eye of a handful of clubs in our league, so I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to get him signed for York City.

“Fair play to the lad, it wasn’t about money to him, it was about an opportunity and being part of something.”

The deal is subject to FA and National League approval.
