York City made it 19 unbeaten in the league after another big three points at the LNER this afternoon.

Forest Green started the game brightly and had a couple of chances inside the opening 7 minutes. Jayden Clarke going in search of a shot from inside the box, only to be denied by a great Morgan Williams tackle.

Kyle McAllister went for goal a minute later, but his shot was easily blocked by the boot of Zak Johnson.

The Minstermen were handed a penalty after 15 minutes following a foul on Jeff King. Alex Hunt stepped up once again to slot the ball into the bottom corner to give City the lead.

Clarke went in search of another shot but his venomous effort flew just wide of the left-hand post.

City so nearly had a second. King’s ball across the box was hit at the back-post by Ben Brookes but his effort was somehow blocked off the line by the visitors.

Ricardo Rees’ first involvement came from a shot on the volley from the edge of the box. He could only watch as his effort flew high and wide of the goal.

York doubled the lead on the stroke of half time as a ball in from Joe Grey from the right was met by Ollie Pearce down the middle who slotted the ball home into the bottom corner.

Nick Haughton went for goal direct from a free-kick but his effort was easily held by Male in the York net.

Joe Grey came close on the hour mark as he rolled a low drove shot just wide of the left-hand post.

Forest Green injected life into their game with 25 to play when Kyle McAllister pounced on a lose ball in the box to get one back for the visitors.

Josh Stones had the ball in the net for what was thought to be York’s third goal, only to be denied by the offside flag.

The Minstermen controlled the rest of the game to hold onto a valuable three points.
