FA Youth Cup Preview | York City vs Workington AFC

By Brad Saxton

The Young Minstermen kick-start their FA Youth Cup campaign this evening in the 2nd Qualifying Round when they take on Workington AFC at the Bannister Prentice Stadium in Garforth.

We thank Garforth Town AFC for allowing us to be able to play this game at their stadium this evening.

The Youth Team have started strongly this season in the league, as they currently sit top of the U19 National League Alliance Academy North after three games.

Their campaign started with a 2-2 draw against Boston United, but back-to-back wins currently see the side sit top of the league with a possible seven points from nine.

Workington travel down to Yorkshire hoping to carry on their run in this year’s competition. Their journey in this season’s competition started in the Preliminary Round, but they were given a bye to advance, before they went on to beat Morpeth Town on penalties in the previous round.

Tickets are only available on the night of the game and entry is priced as follows….

  • Adults: £3
  • Concessions (U16/65+): £1

Please note that tonight’s entry to the stadium will be via CASH ONLY!

Make your way out of York on the A64 past Tadcaster towards the A1. Merge onto the M1, before taking exit 47 to Garforth. Continue onto Aberford Road, before turning on Brierlands Lane where you will find the stadium.

There are two public car parks at the Bannister Prentice Stadium, just before you reach the club and just behind.

Parking is also available on Brierlands lane (approching the ground). If parking on Brierlands lane, please park on side of the road that is nearest to the playing field.

If you had planned on attending the game via train this evening, there are no trains running between York and Garforth due to a National Rail strike.

How to follow the game

As always, the best way to follow the game is in the ground. If you can’t make it to the ground however, here are ways to keep updated with the game:
