We are proud to announce that Paddy McLaughlin has been granted a testimonial year in recognition of his outstanding service to the club.
Now entering his tenth season with the Minstermen, Paddy has become a familiar and respected figure at the heart of the club. His dedication, consistency, and leadership have earned him the admiration of teammates, coaches, and supporters alike.
Paddy played a pivotal role in two of the most iconic seasons in York City’s modern history — helping the club return to the Football League and lifting the FA Trophy in 2012, before captaining the side to promotion back to the National League in 2022.
To mark this milestone, a testimonial committee has been formed and is organising a series of events to celebrate Paddy’s contribution. Throughout the season, Paddy will reunite with teammates and staff from across his time at the club, including members of both the 2012 double-winning squad and the 2022 promotion side.
In addition, the committee is pleased to confirm that Menfulness (York) will be partnering with Paddy throughout the testimonial year, helping raise awareness and support for men’s mental health across the city.

Chairman’s Tribute
York City Chairman Matt Uggla commented:
‘Paddy has been a fantastic servant to the football club. A key part of the famous 2012 team and a part of a lot of amazing moments throughout his time at the club. Not often these days many players get to 10 years of service at one football club, and I think that speaks volumes about Paddy and his commitment and love to both the club and the city. The club is proud and grateful for all Paddy has done for York City.’
Manager’s Tribute
York City Manager Adam Hinshelwood added:
“Paddy has been a true professional and a role model for our younger players. While he hasn’t featured on the pitch as much as he would have liked, he’s played a vital role in our preparations and has set high standards in training. He still has an eye for goal and the ability to drop his shoulder with elegance and guile — a true Minstermen legend. I wish him a successful testimonial year and hope the fans get behind it in full.”
Paddy McLaughlin’s Message
‘A huge thank you to the football club and Matt and Julie-Anne for granting me this testimonial year. The club and city mean a lot to me. It’s become my home, and playing across the ten years has been a rollercoaster, but one I have loved. I’ve enjoyed some of my best days in football at this club, and the manager knows he can continue to rely on me if called upon.
I’m looking forward to the year ahead, enjoying events with fans and teammates past and present, and I would love nothing more than to be part of another squad that takes this club back to the EFL.’
