The Stuart Maynard chapter began with a deserved 3-1 win away at Yeovil Town on Saturday.
Taking charge for his first game, the new gaffer opted for two changes to the eleven that started our previous outing against Woking, with Ollie Pearce and Tyrese Sinclair returning in place of Josh Stones and Joe Grey.
The first set-piece fell York’s way inside the opening three minutes. Alex Hunt swung the ball in, looking for Callum Howe, but the hosts leaped highest to head clear.
Yeovil registered the first shot of the game, Junior Morias from distance, but his effort was easily blocked by the City defence.
Brett McGavin was next to try his luck from range for the hosts. His shot from a free-kick went just wide of the left-hand post.
Ollie Pearce nearly had the opener inside 13 minutes. He latched onto an Ollie Banks through ball before shooting at goal from inside the box but Jed Ward made a good stop to keep the score level.
City had a glorious chance to take the lead after 25 minutes. Joe Felix bundled down in the box by James Plant. Ollie Pearce stepped up to calmly place his penalty down the middle of the goal to put the Minstermen ahead.
10 minutes later and City had another. Alex Hunt with a ball forward towards Tyrese Sinclair who latches onto it before feeding a perfect pass to Ollie Banks on the edge who smashed the ball home.
Ollie Pearce had the ball in the net in the opening stages of the second half but the referee awarded a foul to Yeovil in the build-up.
Yeovil sub Tahvon Campbell was ambitious to try another effort at goal from range. This one saw the block of Callum Howe.
The hosts had another chance to try their luck from range Brett McGavin from a free kick looped the ball goalwards but he could only find the stand behind the net.
Ollie Pearce nearly had his second of the afternoon when he latched onto a ball through from Alex Newby before planting a shot at goal. The ball looped at goal but landed on the roof of the net.
Against the run of play Yeovil had one back with their first shot on target. Luke McCormick tapping the ball into an empty net after Harrison Male miscontrolled the ball inside the box.
Just five minutes later and City restored their two goal cushion once more. Hiram Boateng’s cross being turned into the back of the net by Yeovil defender Jake Wannell.
The Glovers’ fate had been sealed at this point, as the Minstermen stayed strong to see out a superb win on the road.
