Scunthorpe United scored three to claim three points against the Minstermen this Wednesday evening.

The best chance in the opening ten minutes came when Joe Felix drilled a low effort across the face of goal, but it rolled just wide and out for a goal-kick.

Tyrese Sinclair hit a looping shot from the edge of the box, but this shot just evaded the crossbar.

It was a half of few chances, Scunthorpe came close in the 25th minute when Danny Whitehall lept highest from a corner, only to place his header wide of the post.

Moments later, Alex Newby rolled a shot from his right boot, but this one was blocked by the Iron back line.

Mark Kitching found himself with room to shoot in the 37th minute, but his low drilled shot from inside the box was blocked superbly by the Scunthorpe defence.

Callum Roberts called Harrison Male into action towards the end of the first half. His curling left-footed shot from the edge of the box, beaten away by the City number one.

Scunthorpe took the lead in added time in the first half. Alfie Beestin’s shot on the half-volley from the edge of the box flying into the net.

York nearly had the leveller in the dying seconds. Newby’s shot from range firing just wide of the right-hand post.

Tyler Denton had the first chance of the second half for Scunthorpe but his shot from inside the box was easily saved by Male.

Declan Howe went in search of the Iron’s second but his low driven shot was pushed away by Male.

Malachi Fagan-Walcott went on an advancing run by himself before turning the ball onto his left-foot and shooting at goal but his effort clipped the post.

Substitute Joe Grey burst into life just seconds after entering the field. His left-footed shot at goal stinging the palms of Mahady who did well to collect.

York had two chances in quick succession in the 80th minute when Alex Hunt went for a trademark shot from outside the box only to be denied by the block.

The following chance saw a Dan Batty cross reach Kitching at the back post but his header from close range was well saved by Mahady.

The visitors were handed a golden chance to double their lead with 8 minutes to go when Male was penalised for a foul on a Scunthorpe man inside the box. Oli Ewing stepped up to tuck the ball away to increase the advantage.

City grabbed one back in added time when a cross from the right was headed on by Ollie Pearce and into the net.

Unfortunately for the Minstermen Scunthorpe sealed the win when Tyrell Sellars-Fleming rounded Male before slotting the ball home.
