York City fought back twice to claim a point at home against Boreham Wood.

Boreham Wood had the lead inside two minutes. Abdul Abdulkalik’s shot from inside the box was well kept out by Harrison Male but only into the path of Matt Rush who fired home.

City had a chance to respond when Alex Hunt’s corner was well met at the front post by Mark Kitching. His pass was met by Hiram Boateng who went for goal but the block was made.

Kitching had a shot for himself minutes later. This one from range was blocked on the edge of the box.

The Minstermen’s best chance of the half came when Ollie Pearce played Boateng through down the middle, his low driven shot was well kept out by Finlay Herrick in the Wood goal.

In the dying seconds of the first half City drew level. Alex Newby’s shot on the half volley from just inside the box was announce to see the ball bounce past Herrick and into the net.

The game jumped into life in the 52nd minute when Abdulmalik had a great chance to give the Wood the lead once more. His shot from inside the box was well held by Male.

City on the counter left Pearce feeding Hunt through on goal but with only the keeper to beat he fired wide of the target.

It was the visitors who got the goals third goal. Former City man Lewis Richardson with a teasing ball into the box which was met by Rush once more who pounced before slotting the ball away.

Boreham Wood were defending well, Kitching fed in a cross from the left which was met by Pearce in the box but his left-footed effort was kept out by Herrick.

City left it late to rescue a point. Sub Ben Brookes’ cross meeting Ryan Fallowfield in the box who sent a looping header goalwards and past Herrick.
