FA Youth Cup Match Report: York City U18s 4-2 Stockport Town U18s

York City U18s confirmed their place in the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup after a 4-2 victory over Stockport Town yesterday evening.

Stockport had the first shot of the game in the 3rd minute. Diop from outside the box, but White was equal to the effort.

York’s first change came from a set-piece. Greening’s teasing ball in was cleared away at the back post.

City had another chance just moments later. Day being slipped through on goal, but he rolled his shot wide of the target.

Stockport’s next chance came in the form of. Ferguson shot towards the near post. White got down well to make the save

Greening was back involved in the action when he hit a shot from a free-kick. His shot flew inches wide of the goal.

Day went racing through on goal once more in the 25th minute, but Marsh made a great stop to his left to keep the score goalless.

In the 32nd minute, York were handed a penalty. Day was brought down by the keeper. Greening stepped up to slot the ball into the bottom right to send city into the lead.

City doubled the lead just moments later, a ball in from the left was slotted home inside the box to put city into cruise control.

York had another goal at the start of the second half. Day with his shot third time lucky beating the keeper before rolling into the bottom corner.

The visitors grabbed one back with 20 minutes to go when a slip in midfield allowed the Stockport man with room to shoot. His first shot being saved by the keeper but he slotted his rebound in the net a second time.

City nearly restored the three goal cushion when Tweed played a great ball to Hewson inside the box but his shot was well saved low.

Stockport had another with four minutes to play. Ferguson rolling a shot past the keeper and into the bottom corner to set a nervy end for the Minstermen.

Despite a late burst of pressure from the visitors, City launched the ball forward before Farrar was there on the edge of the box to roll the ball in once more to seal the cup victory.
