York City extended the winning run to six games in the National League following an impressive second half performance.

It took just five minutes for City to take an early lead. Fresh from his goal at Brackley, it was Greg Olley with the magic header from a left-sided cross to bury the ball past Coniah Boyce-Clarke.

Less than ten minutes later and Aldershot grabbed an equaliser out of nowhere. Ryan Jones collecting the ball on the edge of the box before rolling a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Josh Stones looked to find an immediate response but his dinked ball over Boyce-Clarke was well hooked away off the line by Aldershot.

Aldershot were having a strong opening period and came close again when Ryan Hill went for goal from outside the box, this effort floated wide of the right-hand post.

The visitors were handed a golden chance to take the lead on the half-hour mark. James Henry receiving the ball in a vital area in the box but his effort rattled the crossbar as City saw the ball out for a corner.

After a first half with City on the back-foot it was crucial for Maynard’s men to have a bright start to the second half. They couldn’t have asked for much more when the ball fell to Malachi Fagan-Walcott on the edge of the box who volleyed the ball right into the net to give York the lead once more.

Alex Newby had the next chance of the game. His half-volley from inside the box rose high over the bar.

York had an enormous chance to extend the lead on the hour mark. The ball was slipped through to Josh Stones who rolled the ball towards the goal, only to be denied by the post.

Joe Grey entered the field in the 63d minute. Less than a minute later he had City’s third goal. Twisting and turning down the right-hand side of the box before powering the ball past Boyce-Clarke and into the roof of the net.

York looked the have the game wrapped up with 15 to play. Olley playing the wall wide to Grey once more who darted into the box before rolling the ball under the keeper to extend the lead.

Malachi nearly had his second of the afternoon shortly after when his shot was somehow cleared off the line from a Grey pass.

Grey was bundled over in the box in the final minute of the game. No doubt to who stepped up to slot the ball home to seal his hattrick, Grey once more getting the fifth of the afternoon.
