York City Ladies Development Team travelled to Riverside to take on Thornaby Women in the North Riding County Cup Final.
Having previously beat York City Ladies first team 2-1 to progress to the final, the team knew that Thornaby would be a tough test but was ready to embrace the experience and give it 100%.
The squad as follows: Lyla Cooper, Erin Stewart (C), Erin Elliot, Liv Bell, Eliza Newton, Heather Smith, Amelia O’Flaherty, Lil Scott, Lola Tunstall, Sasha Dann, Ruby Shannon, Tia-May Walker, Sophie Ryder, Daisy Masefield, Lili Patton & Tia McDonagh. Managed by Sam Witthames & Kaan Caglar.
Goalkeeper Lyla Cooper denied the opposition early, but after a third successive corner Thornaby went a goal ahead nine minutes into the game. Sasha Dann came close at the other end, but unfortunately Thornaby led 0-4 by half time.
Despite the experience posed by the opposition, the young team came back out at half time continuing their fight. A full time score of 0-9, and a great achievement for the team who were Runners Up in the North Riding County Cup, representing York City with pride.
The game concludes the end of the season for York City with an exciting preseason lined up and more in store for 26/27.
